Overview

The Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni stands out for one reason that matters more than any spec sheet number: it actually cleans corners. That square design, which launched in October 2023 at $1,499.99, broke from the round robot vacuum tradition and delivers 99% edge cleaning scores in independent tests. Most robot vacuums leave crescent-shaped debris piles in every corner of your home. This one doesn’t.

At 95mm (3.74 inches) tall, it’s also the slimmest premium robot vacuum you can buy, sliding under furniture that blocks competitors. Combined with 8,000 Pa suction and dual rotating mop pads that actually scrub rather than drag, the X2 Omni represents Ecovacs’ most ambitious attempt at a genuinely autonomous floor cleaner.

But here’s the catch: automation isn’t the same as maintenance-free. Despite the all-in-one dock that empties debris, washes mops with hot water, and dries them automatically, you’ll still spend time refilling water tanks, replacing dust bags, and troubleshooting an app that users describe as “glitchy.” The X2 Omni is genuinely impressive technology with genuinely frustrating rough edges.

What Makes It Different

The Square Design Actually Matters

Round robot vacuums can’t physically reach into corners. The X2 Omni’s square chassis, combined with edge detection sensors that bring it within 30mm of walls, means coverage that independent testers measured at 99.77% of floor area. For homes with lots of corners (so, all homes), that’s a meaningful improvement.

Hair Handling That Works

Pet owners, take note: Modern Castle testing showed 100% long hair pickup with zero tangling. The rubber floating brush design prevents the wrapped-hair nightmare that plagues most robot vacuums. Short pet hair scored 96%, and human hair hit 100% pickup rates. If your floors are covered in shed fur, this matters.

Mopping That Actually Scrubs

The OZMO Turbo 2.0 system uses dual rotating chenille pads that provide genuine scrubbing action, not just wet dragging. Modern Castle rated mopping performance as “Excellent.” The pads lift 15mm automatically when carpet is detected, and the dock washes them with 60 degree C (140 degree F) hot water at intervals you choose: every 10, 15, or 25 minutes.

Cleaning Performance by the Numbers

Independent testing tells a more nuanced story than Ecovacs’ marketing:

Hard Floors: Outstanding. Best Cordless Vacuum Guide measured 99.55% debris pickup, with 99.28% on sand specifically. Hardwood scored 97.4% in Modern Castle testing with no scratching reported.

Carpet: Good but not exceptional. Overall carpet performance hit 94.18%, which is above average but not class-leading. Deep cleaning scores dropped to 63.6% because the 8,000 Pa suction, despite being marketed as “industry-leading,” struggles with embedded dirt in thick pile.

Interestingly, PCMag noted that the X2 Omni outperforms the newer X8 Pro (which claims 18,000 Pa) in some debris categories. Pa numbers are marketing, not performance guarantees.

Specific Debris Types:

  • Fine dust: 95.5% overall capture
  • Large debris (cereal): 100%
  • Short pet hair: 96%
  • Long pet hair: 100% with no tangling

The X2 Omni uses dual-laser LiDAR embedded in its edges (no protruding dome) paired with AIVI 3D 2.0 camera-based obstacle detection. Initial mapping takes about 10 minutes, and the robot stores up to 2 floor maps plus an environment map.

Here’s where user experiences diverge sharply. Some report smooth, efficient navigation. Others describe erratic patterns, robots getting lost, and mysteriously deleted maps. Ecovacs continues pushing firmware updates to address navigation issues, which suggests they’re aware the system isn’t perfect.

The starlight sensor helps with low-light navigation, and ultrasonic sensors detect carpet for automatic mop lifting. The mop lift generally works reliably, though some users report false positives on dark floors.

Battery Life Reality

The 6400 mAh battery officially runs 212 minutes in silent sweep-only mode, covering up to 435 square meters. Standard sweep-and-mop drops to 143 minutes and 202 square meters.

But those numbers ignore a practical reality: when mopping, the robot returns to dock every 20-30 minutes for pad washing. For large homes, actual cleaning time per session becomes unpredictable. The robot charges 45% faster than its X1 predecessor, but you’ll still experience interruptions.

Expect 2-3 years of battery life before noticeable degradation. Users report 15-20% runtime loss after 18-24 months of daily use.

The Dock: Impressive But Not Hands-Off

The OMNI station handles:

  • Auto-emptying into a 3L bagged system (about 90 days between bag changes)
  • Hot water mop washing at 60 degrees C
  • Hot air mop drying (2, 3, or 4 hour options)
  • 4L clean water tank with 3.5L dirty water capacity

It’s genuinely impressive automation. It’s also genuinely loud: 82 dB during dust collection, comparable to a blender. Schedule emptying for when you’re out.

The maintenance reality: you’ll refill water tanks 1-2 times weekly for typical mopping. Dust bags need replacement every 1-3 months. The dock footprint with robot docked measures roughly 650 x 550mm, so plan your space accordingly.

The App Experience

The ECOVACS Home app rates 4.6 stars on iOS, but that number hides persistent complaints: map glitches, freezing camera feeds, and a cumbersome interface. Users report that app replacement notifications for filters appear far more frequently than actual filter condition warrants. Visual inspection before replacing parts will save you money.

The built-in YIKO 2.0 voice assistant processes commands locally (no cloud required for basic operation) and handles complex multi-command requests. Activation requires saying “OK Yiko.” Response consistency is mixed; sometimes it takes multiple attempts.

Smart Home Integration Note: The original X2 OMNI does NOT support Matter or Apple HomeKit despite what some marketing materials claim. Only the X2 COMBO variant (introduced 2024) includes Matter support. Both versions work with Alexa and Google Assistant for basic commands.

Noise Levels

Measurements vary by test methodology, but expect:

  • Quiet mode: 40-57 dB
  • Standard mode: 52-66 dB
  • Max+ mode: 65-70 dB
  • Self-empty cycle: 75-82 dB

Multiple users report an annoying high-pitched whine at all power levels. If noise sensitivity matters to you, schedule cleaning for when you’re away.

Ongoing Costs

Annual maintenance runs $100-250 assuming moderate use (3-4 cleanings per week, mopping once weekly):

PartEstimated CostReplacement Interval
E11 Filter$25-403-6 months (ignore app’s monthly suggestion)
Main Brush$30-506-12 months
Side Brush$15-256-12 months
Mop Pads (pair)$20-351-3 months
Dust Bags$10-15 each1-3 months
Battery$80-1502-3 years

Third-party replacement parts exist but user reports indicate quality concerns. Ecovacs recommends official parts.

Durability and Longevity

Expected lifespan: 3-5 years with proper maintenance. Common failure points include battery degradation, motor bearing wear, wheel tread wear, and water seal degradation on the mopping system.

Tool-free brush removal makes routine maintenance straightforward. Hair removal from the rubber brush is actually more difficult than previous models because the floating design allows more wrapping. Motor or board repairs require sending the unit to a service center.

Build quality is generally solid with durable plastic components, though water seals are noted as a potential weak point for long-term reliability.

Warranty and Support

U.S. warranty: 1 year from purchase (2 years in EU and Australia). Registration within 14 days of purchase is required for full coverage. Separately purchased batteries and motorized accessories get only 6 months.

Support quality is inconsistent. Some regional centers (UK especially) receive positive reviews while others are described as dismissive. Warranty claims require proof of purchase, serial number, and return shipment (initially customer-paid). Expect 2-4 weeks for repairs.

Known Issues

  • Navigation can be inconsistent; some units perform flawlessly while others struggle
  • High-pitched whine at all power levels annoys some users
  • App map glitches and freezing camera feeds
  • Can snag on area rug fringes and drag rug corners
  • Dark floors sometimes trigger false carpet detection
  • Frequent dock returns during mopping extend total cleaning time

The Bottom Line

The X2 Omni excels at what most robot vacuums fail: corners, edges, and hair. Its square design and anti-tangle brush solve real problems. Hard floor performance is exceptional, and the mopping system provides genuine scrubbing rather than wet dragging.

But it’s not a set-and-forget appliance. You’ll deal with water tank refills, dust bag replacements, app frustrations, and the occasional navigation quirk. Deep carpet cleaning isn’t a strength. The noise, especially during self-emptying, requires scheduling consideration.

For homes with mostly hard floors, pet hair, and lots of corners, the X2 Omni delivers meaningful cleaning improvement over round competitors. For homes with thick carpets and users expecting truly hands-off operation, the reality may disappoint.
